The truth is, not every kid can afford to go to a school like this. Not every family can invest in this type of education—whether they believe in it or not. It’s long been a conundrum of ours that this type of education is accessible largely to privileged white children. Because it costs to run a school, and our tuition is already purposely kept low to make it accessible to more families, we need people to donate money.
In 2020 when the Black Lives Movement called for reparations, we responded to that call by seeking out and offering full scholarships to five BIPOC students whose families who were particularly burdened by the online schooling pandemic year and wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford to send their kids to VGS.
But our commitment to racial equity didn’t start in 2020. It’s been in place since the inception of our school in 2007. Our values of environmental justice, and racial equity are woven into the curriculum that we teach at VGS.
You can make make a donation to Vashon Green School by mailing us a check. Your contribution helps us expand our reach to those who are not in a position to pay for a solutionary education for their children and supports VGS’ commitment to the call for reparations and equity in education.
You can make a one-time gift, become a sustaining monthly contributor, or sponsor the full tuition of one child.
Every act of generosity matters, whatever the amount.
